Elevating Events Through Connection and Joy

Dancing has a way of bringing people together like nothing else. At Steps in Time, everything begins with heritage dancing — the timeless, communal tradition that sets us apart.

Here’s a closer look at the dance traditions that shape our events.

Heritage Dancing: The Heart of What We Do

Heritage dancing is the foundation of every event we lead. It's the tradition that shapes our music, our teaching style, and the joyful atmosphere everyone loves.

Across history, communities have held folk dancing at the heart of their culture.

We preserve the best of the best by bringing them to life in a way that feels fresh yet timeless. We teach a curated mix of Irish, Scottish, English, American, Square, Line, Circle, and other dances that turn every occasion from barn dances to formal proms into something unforgettable.

These dances require no skill and create an immediate sense of connection and delight, turning a room full of individuals into a community that succeeds together.

Why It Matters

Heritage dancing creates bonds across ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. It’s simple, communal, and designed for shared success, making it the perfect centerpiece for any event.

Heritage dancing
done right elevates the event in ways most gatherings never offer, adding a unique, unexpected touch of charm while keeping the room alive with laughter, energy, and moments people talk about long afterward.

Line Dancing

Line dances add an upbeat, modern spark alongside our heritage traditions.

We bring the right dances to the right crowd at the right time. The grown-ups charge the floor to the Electric Slide, and when Cotton Eye Joe hits, the teens come running like it's their anthem.

Couples Dancing

Couples dancing provides an occasional complement to our heritage‑dance core.

At Homecoming and Prom, Heritage dancing is the main event with a few swing dances mixed in, including a "Snowball!"

First Friday events offer a more balanced mix with swing, line dances, and the occasional polka.

For weddings, galas, schools, and community groups, we shape the program to the event planner’s vision:

-all heritage

-mostly country line dancing

-a blend of everything

or anything that fits the occasion.

When groups want other dances such as waltz or simple social dancing, we teach it in a natural, comfortable way that emphasizes social etiquette, confidence, and partner awareness more than precise movements.
